I wrote a post talking about how tap water wreaks havoc on your body because it has so many additives and contaminants that your whole purpose for drinking water is pointless.  One of our main purposes for drinking water is to flush out our system  of toxins.  By drinking tap water, you may be introducing things into your body that doesn’t even belong there like heavy metals, chlorine, fluoride, and thousands of other things that pass through during the water treatment process.

Potential bacteria and viral infections are everywhere.  You wanna make sure you’re not coming in contact with people or things that are contaminated with them.  Something as simple as washing your hands can reduce the chances of infecting yourself by putting your hands in your mouth or rubbing certain areas of your face that can allow certain germs and bacteria from entering your body through your mucus membrane or bloodstream.

So why exactly do we need to drink water?  Isn’t drinking tea, soda, juice, and coffee good enough because they’re liquids?  Doesn’t the body need liquids?  Well, these things are liquids, but they aren’t that effective at flushing your system out the way water does (preferably distilled water).  Think of trying to take a bath in coffee or juice.  Yes, you’re getting wet, but these liquids leave a residue behind and they don’t do a good job of getting you clean the way water does.

Another good thing water does is it hydrates.  Your body is full of cells that need to stay hydrated or they’ll die.  This is why when you get dehydrated, you have certain symptoms and warning signals that tell you to drink water.  If you ignore these symptoms for long, certain bodily functions and organs start to shut down.  When this happens, your health is in jeopardy.

Water makes up about 70% of our bodies.  We lose water doing the most minor task like breathing, sweating (working out or rise in body temperature due to the temperature in a room).  We want to make sure the water we lose is put back to maintain balance.

Drink To Your Health

If you’re not a big water-drinker, make it one of your New Year’s Resolutions.  By consuming more water, you do right by your health.  You want to make sure that the quality of your water is the best.  By drinking distilled water on a regular basis, you flush your system out with better results because when distilled water passes your body, it takes more toxins with it and leaves nothing behind as it passes through the way tap water does.

There are microorganisms that can’t survive in an alkaline environment.  They actually thrive in an acidic environment.  So if you’re noticing you’re getting sick frequently, your pH balance may be outta whack.  Did you know that drinking distilled water can give you that same alkalizing effect?

People who drink a lot of distilled water tend to stay sick less often.  They’re constantly flushing out their bodies, which helps aide in a stronger immune system.  Think about it. If your body is being cleanse frequently, do you think it has a chance to get sick that often?

I wrote about the power of fasting in my last post.  Fasting has so many health benefits that we aren’t exploring because we, as a society, loves to eat.  We eat when we’re hungry, we eat when we’re feeling down, and we even eat when we are bored.  This is a major reason why so many people in Western countries are obese more than other countries.

By not eating for a few  days to a few weeks, you give your body a break from digesting food and it starts to repair things that have been breaking down over the years.  Fasting is also a very effective way to lose body fat.  Not eating over a certain period of time regulates your hormones, like insulin, which controls fat storage.  If your body isn’t eating and storing fat, it will have to get energy from it’s fat reserves, which is how you can lose fat more effectively compared to people who only restrict calories.

So if you’re feeling sick or injured, by not eating over a few days or weeks can actually speed up your recovery in a shorter time span than the average person.

Can Medicine Make You Sicker?

Have you ever watched a commercial with some man walking through a field, talking about how he’s taking a medication for hair loss, how having hair increases his confidence, etc.?  Did you ever listen to how they’ll say,

“[MEDICATION NAME HERE] isn’t for everyone.  Side effects includes…”

It’s funny because some of these hair treatment medications may give you a full head of hair, but you’ll see that side effects may include impotence.  In case you don’t know, that means your ‘ah-hem’  “Soldier doesn’t salute proud and tall”.  So that means the women will like that you have a head full of hair, loving your confidence, but when it comes time to take things to the bedroom, you can’t perform because the hair treatment is messing with your erections.  This is only one example.

Medication can help your body heal, but it should not be a crutch you rely on.  Your body doesn’t get the credit it deserves.  Do you know that a lot of times the less you do, like getting a lot of rest, fasting, and eating better, your body can work at an optimal level?

Don’t take medicine unless it’s REALLY necessary.

Prevention Is The Best Remedy

By protecting yourself from certain infections and diseases, you won’t have to deal with the pain of being sick or disease-ridden.  Wearing condoms prevents you from sexually transmitted diseases at a 99% rate.  When someone is sick, a good way to decrease your chances of getting sick is to not eat or drink after them.  You don’t want to treat sick friends, family, and co-workers like outcasts, but you want to protect yourself from getting sick, which can ruin your plans for the week.

Here are some good ways to protect yourself from getting sick:

Drink plenty of (distilled) water.  By flushing out your system frequently, you decrease the occurrence of being sick.  So if you are sick, you won’t be sick multiple times out of the year.

Keep air circulating throughout your house.  For those cold winters, you may want to invest in an air purifier to decrease your chances of getting sick if you keep your windows closed.

Drink liquids and take vitamins that can boost your immune system when you’re not sick.  If you’re sick, you’re playing catch-up when you try to boost your immune system.  The best time to boost your immune system is when you’re feeling well.  This decreases your chances of getting sick in the first place.

If you’re getting over a cold, you want to boost your immune system during this time because your body will need that boost after such a long battle with whatever was ailing you.  It’s like eating a meal after you just finished running a marathon.

The best remedy is prevention.
