The 90-Day Distilled Water Gallon Challenge

What exactly is a 90-day distilled water gallon challenge?  It’s drinking one gallon of distilled water a day for 90 days.  Sounds easy, right?  Well if you’re not a big water-drinker, it can be very challenging because you have to do this for 90 days straight.

In this post, I’m going to give you my experience and what to expect when you take on this little challenge.  But first, let me tell you why I took on this in the first place.

Why I Tried This Challenge In The First Place

It was a few years back when I first started learning about the many benefits of drinking distilled water.  There’s a guy by the name of Andrew Norton Webber who has some videos on the many benefits of drinking distilled water and he mentioned how things start to change for you health wise if you drink distilled water for 90 days straight.  The thing that stuck out most from what he said was it can give you clearer vision.  Being that I wear glasses, this is the reason why I wanted to try this.  I wanted to test it out for myself.

Being that I’m not a very big water drinker, it wasn’t a habit of mine, so it became more of a challenge.

My Experience Drinking A Gallon Of Distilled Water A Day

When I tried this 90-day distilled water challenge, it was not as hard as I thought it would be.  I felt well-hydrated at all times, my body felt more limber and loose because drinking water lubricates your joints and muscles so you’ll experience more flexibility when you workout.  My body was well-flushed from the foods and drinks I consumed because I was constantly using the bathroom.  As mentioned in previous posts, distilled water holds more toxins that can be removed from the body when you use the bathroom.

Unfortunately, I only made it about 2/3 of the way there.  I was only able to make it to 60 days in a row.  There were times when I didn’t feel like drinking water but only drank it because it was part of the challenge.  I also got tired of running to the bathroom so frequently once I was done with my gallon.  I do plan on trying another 90-day distilled water gallon challenge in the near future.  This time I hope that I can make it all the way to 90 days and beyond.

8 Cups Of Water Is The Recommended Daily Water Intake

The daily recommended water intake is about 8 8-oz cups of water a day.  That comes out to 64-ozs of distilled water.  This is very easy to do.  All that is is two 32-oz bottles of water or around 2 liters of distilled water a day.  I can drink that within one-two hours.

The best part about this is it doesn’t take much to drink your daily recommended amount of water within a 24-hour period.  With that being said, we still find it hard to drink that amount.  This is another good thing about the challenge because, by being able to drink a gallon a day for a certain period of time, it gets you in the habit of drinking more water after the challenge has ended.

One Gallon Is Twice The Daily Recommended Water Intake

A gallon of water  is about 3.78 liters of water or about 16 8-oz cups of water.  That’s a grand total of 128 ounces of water a day.  This is why you’re constantly going to the bathroom  because whatever your body doesn’t need, it gets rid of.  Don’t take this as you losing all your nutrients from your body because whatever your body needs it will hold on to and if their is any loss of vitamins and minerals, it’s the excess that your body gets rid of during urination and bowel movement anyway.

Drinking a gallon of distilled water is twice the daily recommended intake of water they say your body needs, but the excess water you’re drinking will help put back the water you lose during sweating, urination, bowel movements etc.  It’s going to lubricate your muscles and joints, so you may experience less stiffness in your joints and muscles.  Being that your body is flushing out constantly, all the excess salt and toxins are being eliminated from your body on a regular basis.

Drinking Other Beverages Don’t Count As Part Of Your Gallon

Just because you’re consuming liquids doesn’t mean it counts as part of your gallon of water… even if the beverage you made was using distilled water.  You want to drink distilled water because it has nothing added and gives your body the flush it needs of toxins and other things that don’t belong in your body.  This includes the things that your food and beverages leave behind that don’t really belong in your body.

So when you take on this challenge, you can consume other beverages, but just understand that it won’t be included as part of your gallon a day consumed.

A Gallon Of Distilled Water A Day Won’t Hurt You

There’s a big misconception that you’ll get Hyponatremia, or water intoxication if you consume a gallon of distilled water a day.  Water intoxication is when you drink so much water that your cells start to get damaged and it can kill you.  In order to get to that point, you would have to drink  GALLONS of water within a few hours.  You are only drinking one single gallon of distilled water for the whole day.

Your body has a mechanism that doesn’t allow you to get to this level very easily.  This is why you are using the bathroom so much.  Your body is releasing the water it doesn’t need.

You Don’t Have To Finish One Gallon Of Distilled Water In One Sitting

You have many hours to finish off a gallon of distilled water in a day.  You can drink as much as you want within a certain time period but it doesn’t has to be all at once.  It’s actually recommended that you don’t drink it all at once.

You can drink water with your meals, you can drink water in between meals.  You can drink water after you work out.  You can drink water as one of the first things you do after you wake up.  It doesn’t matter how you do it or how much, just understand that this is not a race to see how fast you can drink a gallon, it’s a marathon of how long can you drink one gallon each day.

Within each day, don’t force yourself to drink a lot of water at one time or you will quit very early… especially if you are not use to drinking so much water in a single day.

Pissing Like A Race Horse

The most annoying thing about drinking a gallon of distilled water a day is you are constantly using the bathroom.  If you’re using the bathroom every 10-20 minutes, this can be very annoying.  After a while, you might find yourself getting an empty gallon jug and urinating in that and dumping it later on in the day.  This is natural so don’t get scared if you are using the bathroom 2-3 times an hour.

Two things I don’t suggest when drinking a gallon a day.

  1. Drinking a lot of water close to your bedtime.
  2. Drinking a lot of water at your job or if you’re gonna be at a place where you can’t go to the bathroom frequently.

It’s a good idea to finish your water about 2-3 hours before you go to bed.  At your job, try to stretch out 1-2 liters of water throughout your work hours.  Don’t finish them too fast or you will be taking frequent bathroom breaks.  If you work at a job that has an assembly line or conveyor you need to be at for hours on end, drink a little water on your breaks.  If you work at an office environment, keep one liter of distilled water at your desk, and possibly keep the gallon jug at home or the refrigerator at your job.

How To Avoid Constant Bathroom Breaks At Work

Having to constantly use the bathroom at work slows down production or just has your supervisor feel the need to lecture you about constantly leaving your station.  It’s best to play it safe and not drink so much water during your work hours.  Here’s a good tip to use to avoid bathroom breaks.

  1. Drink about one liter of water before you leave the house for work.  If you wake up, shower, get dressed, and leave the house right away, take a liter of water with you.  Sip on it throughout your work hours.
  2. Drink no more than two liters of water during your work hours.
  3. Give yourself about 8-10 hours to finish 1-2 liters of water.  The less water you consume, the less you’ll have to go to the bathroom.

If you can finish 1-2 liters of distilled water by the end of your work shift, the easier it will be consuming the last amount of your gallon.

A Good Strategy To Use To Finish One Gallon Of Distilled Water Each Day

It’s not that difficult to drink so much water as long as you have a good strategy.  Why do you need a strategy?  The hardest part about drinking one gallon of distilled water a day is having to constantly go to the bathroom at the most inopportune time.  At your job, if you constantly leave your station, this will slow down production.  If you’re in class and have to keep using the bathroom, the teacher is going to think you’re trying to play hooky.  This doesn’t really happen when you use a good strategy.

Finish the First Liter As Early As Possible.  A good practice is to finish your first liter of water as soon as you wake up.  When you finish the first liter, it’s much easier to drink the rest of them.

Finish your second liter by the end of your shift or school hours.  Sip your water slowly throughout your workday.  When you feel the need to use the bathroom, it will be much later in the day than earlier on in your shift or school hours.  The less bathroom breaks, the more you can learn or produce.

Finish your third liter when you get home as early as possible.  This is when it gets a little tough.  Between your 2nd and 3rd liter of distilled water, you will notice that you have to use the bathroom a lot more frequently.  Lucky for you, you’re at home and have better access to a bathroom.

Try to finish the last of your gallon about 2-3 hours before you have to go to bed.  The last thing you want is to keep going to the bathroom in the middle of the night.  This will kill your sleep time and have you very tired before heading into work.  You want to be well-rested because you have to do this all over again the next day for the next 89 days.

Drinking more water should not alter your life for the worst.  The point of this challenge is to reap the rewards of drinking more distilled water each day, not punish you and ruin your daily routine.

Drinking Distilled Water On The Go

When you are out and about for hours, you don’t want to play catch-up with your water consumption.  The more water you finish in a short period of time, the more frequently you’ll use the bathroom.  By taking your water with you on the go, you can drink a liter while you’re at the store, shopping, hanging out with friends, etc.

A really good investment is buying an empty liter bottle that you can fill up and take with you.  Make sure you have a bottle with a leak-proof top.  You may throw your bottle in your car and the last thing you want is a wet seat or a puddle because the top is leaking.

Buying Distilled Water For 90 Days Can Get Expensive

Unlike tap water, you can’t just put a gallon jug under the faucet and drink up.  You will have to either buy or make your distilled water.  Buying a gallon a day can be very costly, but if you make your distilled water, over time, you’ll be spending pennies per gallon if you average it out.

Just like me, you may want to do another 90-day distilled water challenge in the future if you didn’t make it to 90 consecutive days.  You may want to invest in a machine that you can make the water whenever you want without spending a lot of money each time.  Take my word for it.

Buying A Water Distiller Machine Can Save You A Ton Of Money In The Long Run

It’s may cost about $90+ to buy your 90-day distilled water supply by the gallon.  This can be very costly if you want to continue to drink distilled water after the challenge.  By getting yourself a water distiller, you actually save money in the long run.

After one year, you’ll notice that the machine starts to pay for itself.  If you’re making more than one gallon a day, you actually get your money back in half to two-thirds of the time.  Being able to make distilled water without leaving your house, you save so much time and money because all you have to do is fill up the machine, set it, and let it do it’s thing.  After some hours, you have a fresh batch of distilled water that didn’t cost a thing to make and didn’t require you to leave the comfort of your kitchen.

This Challenge Is Easier To Do When You Can Make Your Own Distilled Water

When you don’t have to keep going to the store, or stock a weeks worth of water somewhere in your house, this challenge gets a little easier.  By having a machine that can make the water for you, you could possibly make 2 or more gallons every other day and not waste much space storing it, and no money making it.

Easy access and not constantly spending money on water makes this challenge easy and cost-effective in the long run.  If you don’t want to buy a machine, you may notice that you’re either spending more on bottled distilled water or you’re using tap water just to save money.  This is the last thing you want to do for your health.

I Don’t Think I Would Have Done This Challenge Without Owning A Water Distiller Machine

If I didn’t have my very own water distiller, I wouldn’t have taken on this challenge because it’s very expensive to drink distilled water every single day.  I use it for other things like coffee, teas, and I also cook with it.  That’s possibly 2 bottles a day which will double my cost.

By having my own water distiller, I was able to save a ton of money, spending almost nothing to make distilled water on a daily basis.  You have the cleaner that you may be spending money on each month, but this is not pricey at all compared to if I bought 2 gallons of water per day.

Why You Want To Have Your Very Own Water Distiller

If you’re one of those people who likes to save money, a water distiller is a great investment.  Just like any good investment, the initial cost is what can cost the most.  After that, you notice that you’re saving money.  If you buy a really good water distiller, and take good care of your machine, you’ll only have to buy it once and it can last you a lifetime.

If you want to go the cheap route and buy a cheaper machine, your machine will break down and you’ll actually be spending more money in the future.  When it stops working, you’ll have to buy a new one which may be more than the cost of a really good one.  I made this mistake and I had to pay for it in more ways than one.  Before I bought another machine, I had to buy my water by the gallon.  I had to spend extra money that could have went to something better.  I highly recommend you make the right choice the first time.

Benefits Of Distilled Water–How To Drink More Distilled Water A Day

One of the best things you can do for your body is consume more water. You want to flush out toxins that enter your body. Why not choose water that holds more of those toxins and leaves nothing behind?  By always having a gallon of distilled water ready to drink, you’re able to increase your daily distilled water consumption.

Are You Drinking Enough?

Some say you should be drinking 8 glasses (that’s 8-8oz. glasses of water), others say you should drink a gallon or more per day.  Whatever method you use, when you’re feeling really thirsty, that’s a sign that you’re not drinking nearly enough.

You don’t want to drink water until your stomach explodes and if you’re going to be out and about, you don’t want to drink so much that you have to keep taking a bathroom break.  A really good approach is to drink water throughout the day.  If you don’t hit a certain number, don’t worry about it.  By drinking more water on a daily basis, you’ll realize that some days you’re barely hitting 8 glasses of water and other days you’re probably closer to drinking a gallon and a half.  Don’t obsess over the number, just try to drink more water until you’re hitting the numbers your body feels it needs.

Why Not Tap Water?

Just in case you haven’t read any of my other posts, the reason why you don’t want to drink tap water at high volumes is because you have so many contaminants in tap water that it seems to leave more toxins behind than flush them out of your body.

Tap Water has so many contaminants.  Here’s a few things you may find:

  • Chlorine
  • Fluoride
  • Heavy Metals
  • Pesticides
  • Bacteria and Viruses
  • and much, much more

If you’re trying to flush out toxins from your body, doesn’t it seem counterproductive to drink water that leaves even more toxins in than it actually flushes out?

The More “Empty” Your Water Is, The More Effectively It Flushes Out The Body

The reason why tap water should be your water choice is because, when it comes to things in your water, distilled water has NOTHING in it because everything has been left behind during the distillation process.  Some say that distilled water leeches minerals from the body, but this is only inorganic minerals (minerals that your body can’t fully absorb anyway).  Being that distilled water has nothing added, it is very mineral deficient.  Wanna know how to solve this problem?  Don’t look to your water for a mineral source!  All the food you eat, choose foods that can give your body the vitamins and minerals it needs.

Water is meant to flush out the body to keep it running at it’s optimal level.  If you’re consuming tap water all day long, you don’t know what this is.  Tap water has so many things in it that it may be leaving a ton of things behind when it passes your body.  This may also be a reason why no matter how healthy a person is, they end up with some type of disease.  Sometimes it’s not the food your eating (or lacking) but the type of water you use to flush your body out.

Another function water serves is lubricating the body.  Being that we lose a lot of water by sweating, breathing, urinating, defecating, etc., we need to put water back into our bodies so our bodies can remain functioning properly.  When the body is not well-lubricated, it can break down on you causing a set of other problems.

Drinking Only Distilled Water Can Get Very Expensive

Most people who drink distilled water drink it by buying it from their grocery store.  This can be very good for the body, but it can be very expensive over time.  If you were to drink one gallon a day, that’s about $1 per gallon a day.  That’s $365 a year.  We spend about that much each month on food, but you can actually save thousands of dollars a year by owning your very own water distiller that can cost about a year’s worth of distilled water if you’re drinking or using one gallon a day.

So how can it save you thousands if you’re spending only $365?  Well, think about it, if you’re only drinking a gallon a day of distilled water, if you have the machine, you may also cook with distilled water.  You may make your teas, coffees, soups, etc with distilled water.  If you’re a regular coffee drinking, you may be using about half a gallon at a time when you make your coffee.

The best part is it doesn’t ruin the taste of your food or drinks when you use distilled water instead of tap water.  By using distilled water instead of tap water, at least you know that the only thing added to your food is whatever you put in it.  By using tap water, you have added “ingredients” in your food before you added your own.

If You’re Not A Water Drinker, Here’s What You Can Do…

Just because you’re not drinking water, doesn’t mean you’re not hydrating your body.  You may not like drinking plain water, but you can drink a whole gallon of orange juice.  Plain water is very important because it flushes out the stuff that other foods and toxins leaves behind.  Being that we consume a lot of salt (even if the food doesn’t taste salty), we dehydrate our bodies and need to put that water back in.  When you drink plain water, it doesn’t add extra sodium (salt) into our bodies but gives our bodies the hydration it needs.  Drinking juice is okay and it gives you added nutrients  that water doesn’t have, but being that it has so many vitamins and other things in it, it won’t flush your body out as effectively as water does.

So being that we got that out of the way, let me give you a tip that can help you increase your consumption of good old H20.

For the first few weeks, don’t focus on drinking 8 8-ounce glasses of water, instead, drink at least 8 ounces of water after you wake up and a few hours before you go to bed.

When you wake up, after you brush your teeth, this is a really good time to do it (make sure you’re pouring yourself 8 ounces of distilled water and not drinking the stuff coming from the tap while you’re brushing your teeth).  The last 8 ounces of water to drink could be about 2-3 hours before you go to sleep.  This can prevent you from using that bathroom in the middle of your sleep.

Do this until you can drink 2 8-ounce cups of distilled water without a problem.

If you can consistently drink 1 8-oz cup of distilled water after you brush your teeth and one 8-ounce cup about 2-3 hours before you go to bed, increase it to 16 ounces after you brush your teeth and 16 ounces about 2-3 hours before you go to bed.  Drinking 16 ounces of water is very easy being that a lot of the beverages we consume are usually between 12-20 ounces when we go to restaurants or stores.  It helps if you have your favorite cup when you do this.

Do this until you can drink 2 16-ounce cups of distilled water effortlessly.

The best thing to do is buy a 32-oz. bottle that you can carry around with you that has a top with a tight seal.  After you brush your teeth, start drinking your first 32 ounces of water.  You  don’t have to chug it down.  As a matter of fact, you shouldn’t try to chug it to get it out of the way because you don’t want to treat it like you’re forcing yourself.  When you force yourself, you tend to give up a lot easier.  Take as long as you need to finish that first 32 ounces of water.  Once you’re done with that bottle, pour yourself another 32 ounces.  You want to finish your second 32 ounces of water at least 3-4 hours before you go to bed.  Being that you’re consuming more water, you want to give yourself a little more time to finish drinking your water before you go to bed to keep you from pissing like a race horse in the middle of the night.

Once you’re able to consume 2 32-oz. bottles of distilled water, you see how easy it really is to get 8 cups of water a day.

“How About A Gallon Of Distilled Water A Day?”

For those of you who want to drink a full gallon of distilled water per day may think it’s humanly impossible… especially if you’re not even able to drink 8 8-oz. glasses of water.  But from the example above, you now see that if you can drink 2 32-oz. bottles of water a day,  getting your 8 glasses of water a day is very simple.  If you can finish 2 32-oz. bottles of water a day, you’re halfway there.

Being that you’re already drinking a 32 oz. bottle of water after you brush your teeth and 3-4 hours before you go to bed, you can squeeze in another 2 32-oz. bottles in the middle of the day.

Being that we’re not always at home, you may feel it’s more convenient to take your 32 oz. bottle with you, along with a gallon jug of distilled water.  They sell empty gallon jugs online, so you’ll be able to make your distilled water and take it with you on the go.  If you want to go the extra mile, you can have a cooler with an ice pack in your car so your water can stay cold for hours.

After you brush your teeth, try to finish your first 32 ounces of water before you leave the house for work.  Take your 32 oz. bottle with you and your gallon jug of water.  Keep the cooler in your car so you can store your gallon jug and keep it cold.  Try to finish your second 32 ounces of water about 4 hours into your shift.  The third  32 ounces can be finished on the remaining 4 hours of your shift.

This whole time you may notice you’re going to the bathroom more frequently.  If you work at a job where you can’t go to the bathroom frequently, you may want to stick to only drinking one 32 oz. bottle of water within 8 hours of your shift.  Most jobs don’t like their employees taking frequent bathroom breaks… even it’s for legitimate reasons.

As far as the last of your gallon (it’s going to be a little under 32 ounces), try to finish that about 3-4 hours before your go to sleep.

You will be running to the bathroom throughout the day, but this is what it feels like to flush out your system.  If you’re working out, you’ll sweat out a lot of that water and be running to the bathroom.  It can get very annoying to go to the bathroom so much throughout the day, but this is what happens when you drink a gallon of water a day.

This Is The Reason Why You Want To Have Your Own Water Distiller

If you’re consuming a gallon of water a day alone, you still want to cook and drink hot beverages with distilled water.  This can get very expensive over time.  By having your own water distiller, where you can make your distilled water whenever you want throughout the day, it’s easier and cheaper to do it this way and store all your water in the empty gallon jugs.

It’s so much easier to make your water in advance so you will always have a gallon of water to consume and use for other purposes.  Your water distiller will not be one of those pieces of home machinery that sits somewhere and collects dust.

When I bought my water distiller, it got used multiple times throughout the day.  Some machines can’t handle constant daily use.  This is why you want to invest in a really good machine that will last you for years to come.
