Story Time: What Made Me Start Drinking Distilled Water

With every journey or habit, there’s a beginning.  This is my beginning to better health by drinking distilled water.  After reading this, you may decide to make the switch yourself.

In The Beginning, Water Was Just Water

whats-in-your-water-water-out-of-thin-airWhen I was younger, I never understood why would people pay $2 for a bottle of water when they could get it for free from under their faucet.  Little did I know that water’s not just water.  There’s a little more to it than that.

I wasn’t a big water drinker, but whenever I wanted to take a swig of water, I would run my cup under the faucet and get some.  When I was out and about and needed water to drink water after playing sports, I would go to the fire hydrant and run my empty bottle under it and start drinking.  I would usually drink when I was extremely thirsty.

When I heard people say they wanted bottled water, I would think they were acting snobbish and bougie.  It’s funny how I think different now compared to back in the day (which was only about 3-4 years ago).

This is gonna be a story of how I discovered drinking distilled water as my preferred choice.

I Made Fun Of A Co-Worker For Drinking Fiji Water, But I Didn’t Know That This Was The Start Of My Water Journey

benefits-of-distilled-water-on-the-body-drinking-waterThis was during a time I started getting on something called Intermittent Fasting.  This is when you don’t eat for about 16 hours or more and have about 8 hours to eat all your allowed calories.  So if you’re cutting, you eat under a certain amount of calories.  If you’re bulking, you eat over maintenance.  This is to gain muscle and burn fat.  Anyway, I was eating whatever I wanted, but as long as I was under a certain amount of calories, I was still burning fat.

I would come into work and see one of my co-workers always bring in a big Fiji water bottle.  Me, along with a few other co-workers, would make fun of him, putting on a “rich snob’s” voice saying,

“Hmmm, Hmmm, Let me drink my Fiji Woor-Tah”

It was cool because and he didn’t get offended or anything like that.  Little did I know that him drinking Fiji water, sparked an idea in my head without me even realizing it.  Should  I be drinking a better quality of water?

I Wanted To Increase My Water Intake

When it comes to health and fitness, it’s very important that you increase your water intake.  Why?  You need to replace the water you lose through sweating.  It also helps with weight loss.  I wasn’t drinking anywhere near the amount they said I should have been drinking.  Most fitness people say instead of 8 8-oz glasses of water, which comes to 64 ounces of water or half a gallon, you should be drinking a gallon to a gallon and a half of water per day.

It wasn’t that hard to do, but the only problem I had (and still have) is constantly running to the bathroom.  Literally, it does get to a point where you  have to use the bathroom so bad that you’re running to the bathroom!   Drinking a gallon of water was a common number, so I started drinking a gallon of water a day.

At this time, I was drinking tap water, but when I did research on water, I realized how much stuff is in tap water, so I was looking into different types of water that’s better than tap.

I Wanted To Drink A Higher Quality Of Water

There’s a YouTube channel I watch that talks about different topics, but one of the people on the panel drinks alkaline water and he talks about a machine he uses.

During this time, I didn’t know anything about distilled water.  I knew it existed, but I didn’t know the stuff I know now. I didn’t even know what distillation was because I didn’t care too much for it.

I watched videos on alkaline water and the machines used to alkalize your water.  It was costly, but I was interested in drinking alkaline water at this time.

What does alkaline mean?  If you look at the PH chart, it’s numbered from 0-14.  From 0-6, this means something is acidic, 7 is neutral, and 8-14 is alkaline or basic.  If your body is very acidic, you may be more susceptible to getting sick.  If your body is more alkaline, you are less likely to get sick.  In both cases, you want your body to be slightly more alkaline.  You don’t want to be off into the extremes in either direction.  Water is not suppose to be acidic or basic, so it is marked as neutral or 7.  If you test different waters, you’ll find out that it’s not always at a 7.

There are videos I saw on Youtube that showed a lot of the water we drink is more acidic than alkaline.  This had me looking for water that was alkaline so I can get the best benefits.  The water that was most alkaline was the Fiji water my co-worker was drinking.  I stopped making fun of him, but still used the snobbish voice just to get good laughs when talking about Fiji water.

I Bought Water Filter That Alkalized The Water

The machines were very costly, but I did find a pitcher that filtered a lot of the impurities in tap water (not all) and alkalized the water in the process.  I filled a gallon jug and carried it with me to work and made sure I would get as close to drinking a gallon a day as possible.

I don’t know if it was because I was drinking alkalized water regularly or if it was because I upped my water intake, but I was feeling better.  I had more energy and felt amazing.  I was still doing my water research because I wanted to drink the best water I could drink.

I’ve Been Hearing Bad Things About Fluoride And How It Can’t Be Removed With A Water Filter

So I’m drinking the alkalized water, but I did notice that out of the many things it removes from the water, it never said anything about fluoride.  I heard about how we shouldn’t be drinking fluoridated water years ago, and I wanted to know what filter filters out fluoride.

I must have seen dozens of videos on people talking about how bad fluoride is bad for you and it made me wonder:

“If I’m drinking alkaline water, that still has fluoride in it, am I getting the best water I could whats-in-your-water-fluoridedrink?”

I started thinking that once fluoride was in the water, it couldn’t be taken out.  Then I started doing searches on how to remove fluoride from your water.  Little did I know, but there is a way you can remove fluoride from your water, but it’s not with a filter.

Saw Videos On How To Remove Fluoride From Your Water

After doing a few searches on how to remove fluoride from your water, I saw a few videos that said “distill your water”.  I didn’t know what distilled was.  I knew there was distilled water and distilled vinegar, but I didn’t know what “distilled” meant.  So I did a search on “what does distill mean”.

I found out what it meant and how it’s used to purify water when people are in an area where there is no drinkable water around.

I saw a video on tap water vs distilled water.  A man in a lab coat was talking about all the stuff in our tap water and how, according to medical journals, it may be responsible for a lot of diseases we have today.  He boiled two pots of water–one was tap water and the other was distilled water.  While the pots were boiling, he explain what’s in tap water, spring water, and why you want to switch to drinking distilled water.

After the pots were boiled out, he showed both pots to the audience in the room.  The one with tap water had a white ring at the bottom of the pot and the distilled water had nothing at the bottom of the pot.  As a matter of fact, if you look at some of your pots you drink tea out of, you may notice a white film or plaque at the bottom of the pot.  This plaque is what may be stuck to the walls of your arteries and organs from drinking tap water for many years.boiled-out-tap-water

I also heard other stuff about distilled water saying that it leads to an early death.  I was curious on why.  They mentioned that it can cause heart problems, it leeches minerals from the body, and it’s “dead water” because it doesn’t have the minerals your body needs.

I saw another  video from a guy by the name of Andrew Norton Webber, who was praising distilled water.  If you look him up, he has videos that are hours long, but I was interested in what he was talking about and I saw more than one of his videos.  He is the one who explains why drinking distilled water won’t lead to an early death.  He said:

  • distilled water doesn’t cause heart problems, but that feeling you feel in your chest my be a slight muscle spasms due to the distilled water doing a little detox.
  • distilled water leeches inorganic minerals only.  The type of minerals that really don’t belong in your body.  It leaves the organic minerals in tact.  You know, the minerals that are found naturally in food.  The distilled water “magnetizes” itself to the inorganic minerals and excretes them through the body during urination.  The organic minerals are not dealt with in the same manner.
  • he also mentioned something that makes distilled water so powerful.  He said being that distilled water is so empty of minerals and things that are found in other waters, it holds more toxins, which means it’s the best water to cleanse your system.

I was sold on the idea of drinking distilled water after watching his videos.

Bought Distilled Water By The Gallon

distilled-water-stockpileAfter watching the videos, I started buying my water by the gallon.  I noticed that distilled water is very cheaply priced compared to spring water and found this kinda weird.  Being that there’s nothing to market with distilled water (because it has nothing in it), spring water and other waters are priced higher because they add things in them to “enhance” the power of the water.  I’ve never bought distilled water and never drank it before (I may have had products that were made with distilled water, but I never drank it by itself).  I noticed the taste was very different.  It didn’t taste like metal, it didn’t taste like chlorine.  It tasted very flat.  Not bad, just flat.  This is a taste you get use to.

I did get slight muscle spasms in my chest when drinking the distilled water, but that was a detox effect, nothing to go to the hospital for.  After a few days of drinking distilled water, you shouldn’t get them anymore.

While drinking distilled water of out of a gallon, one of my concerns was BPA.  This is a by-product that comes from plastic and distilled water comes in plastic jugs.  So I wanted to go one more step further.  I bought a water distiller and a BPA-free water jug, and later on, a glass water jug.

Made The Investment In A Water Distiller And The Rest Is History

Buying a water distiller is a very good investment.  Not only do you save money because you’re converting free tap water into distilled water, but it doesn’t get exposed to plastic… if you use a glass carafe.  The problem with the machine I bought was it came with a plastic water carafe, and when I made my batch of distilled water for the first time, my water smelled like the plastic carafe and it tasted like plastic.

When you distill water, it comes out warm.  When you put warm beverages into a plastic container, the plastic starts to leech into the beverage, making it taste like plastic.  I didn’t drink the gallon that I made and I bought a glass carafe a few days or weeks later.

Once I bought the glass carafe, I didn’t have a problem with the water tasting like the container ever again.  I took the water from the carafe and put it inside my BPA-free water jug.

I Didn’t Choose The Best Counter Top Water Distiller, But You Can

The water distiller I chose came with a plastic water carafe.  It made my distilled water smell and taste like plastic, even when I put the water in a glass container.  I had to pay another $50-something dollars to buy a glass carafe to give my water the best taste and purity it can get.  Something I’ve also noticed about the water distiller I bought was it looked like something was sticking up a little bit inside the bottom of the water distiller.  This only happened over a course of about 2-3 years.  This is not something that should happen to your water distiller.

Don’t go the cheap route.  The one I bought cost about $150-$180, but I had to spend an additional $50-something dollars for the glass water carafe.  It didn’t even come with a handle.  The machine started wear at the bottom of the distiller after only a few years.
